This video is an excerpt from the Virginia Humanities supported project Mexilachian Son: New Songs for an emerging Virginia Culture. This clip, created in November 2018, features master jaranero Zenen Zeferino, and Lua Project singer Estela Knott, both dancing in their own rhythmic styles, Zenen in three and Estela in 4/4, as they work on an Appalachian infused arrangement of the traditional son jarocho piece, La Guacamaya.

Cobber’s Life rehearsal

Dave and Estela rehearse a new arrangement of their original composition, Cobber's Life with Zenen. In this first attempt, they are blending their song, which is in a 4/4 meter, with the traditional son jarocho piece, El Pajaro Cu, which is in three.
